Refractive surgery
Break free from glasses and contact lenses with a technique tailored to your eyes.

Refractive surgery covers the techniques used to correct vision defects: myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. The aim is to reduce, or even eliminate, the dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
Who can benefit?
The vision defect must first be stable. You need to be at least 20 years old with a correction that has been stable for at least 1 year. In the meantime, if you would rather not depend on glasses, fitting with contact lenses is possible.
A precise pre-operative assessment
Before any procedure, the optical defect is measured precisely through cycloplegia (a test with eye drops) and a full eye examination is carried out, in particular of the cornea (Pentacam and Corvis). This assessment allows us to choose the safest technique best suited to your case.
A free assessment
The Schepens Eye Clinic offers a free assessment of your eligibility for surgery. A specialised orthoptist takes several measurements of your eyes, explains the possible procedures and answers your questions. Please come with your glasses and without having worn contact lenses for 24 hours. If you are ready, a pre-operative appointment with the ophthalmologist can then be booked.
Please note: neither the Belgian national health service (INAMI) nor the mutual insurers contribute to this type of operation.

Your surgery is performed by Dr Gauthier Schepens
An ophthalmic surgeon and founder of the Schepens Eye Clinic, he personally handles the assessment, the choice of technique and the procedure itself, supported by a specialised team who look after you before and after surgery.
